Tom von Sydow, Chief Operating Officer

Tom joins Acuity Eye Specialists with over 35 years in the Healthcare industry. Most recently, Tom was the Vice President of Strategy and Platform Development at Pacific Dental Services, a world-class Dental Support Organization (DSO). During his tenure, Tom drove the percent of Specialty revenue from 28% in 2008 to over 50% in 2016, adding significant shareholder value to this billion-dollar organization. Some of his key accomplishments, in addition to revenue generation, were the development of the first DSO focused on children using only pediatric trained dentists (My Kids Dentist). Growing from one location to over 80 in 2016. Tom also led the organizational strategy on Oral Systemic Health, spearheading the first integrated commercial Medical Dental platform in the US, as well as, working in Washington DC to change Medicare Law allowing Seniors with pre-existing conditions to receive Medicare benefits for periodontal disease.

Tom received his Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and has two leadership certificates from Harvard Business School. Tom and his wife enjoy traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.

Alberto Villatoro, Chief Financial Officer

Alberto J. Villatoro proudly joins the team as Chief Financial Officer after having led the finance team at Pacific Dental Services, where he was the direct report and strategic partner to the founding CFO. He has 15 years of comprehensive corporate finance experience including a Director role at Jacuzzi Spas®, and previously various leadership roles at Black & Decker® and Colgate Palmolive®, most notably he was consistently ranked top of his class for Black & Decker’s 3-year Finance Executive Development Program. Alberto’s contributions in finance to these companies are many.

Alberto is originally from El Salvador in Central America. He attended college in New Jersey at the New Jersey Institute of Technology where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Management. He then went on to Carnegie Mellon in Pennsylvania where he earned a Master Degree in Business Administration (MBA). In his personal time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Luisa, and his 2-year- old son Sebastian. They mostly spend time outdoors and like working in their garden.

Laura Rod – VP Of Marketing

After graduating from Ohio University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Laura spent the last 16 years in the Marketing and Advertising field. She has focused the last nine years applying her marketing strategy to the healthcare industry. Most recently, Laura was a Senior Manager in the Marketing Department at Pacific Dental Services, an industry-leading Dental Support Organization. She spent seven years leading the development of strategic marketing and patient experience initiatives for five unique brands at a national and local-office level. Due to her passion for the healthcare space and desire to impact the way healthcare is provided to patients, Laura was involved in the launch of the first medical practice under the Pacific Dental Services support system, offering patients true comprehensive care between their dental and medical providers.

Prior to Pacific Dental Services, Laura spent many years working at advertising agencies such as DRAFTFCB and UPSHOT where she supported a variety of clients including Kaiser Permanente, Avery Dennison and Procter & Gamble on their direct-to-consumer initiatives. In her free time, Laura enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering at her children’s school.

Alan Guagliardo- Director Of Operations

Alan is a process zealot who loves analytics and working with teams to build solutions and pilot new ideas. He graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and M.S. in Engineering Management where he redesigned a hospital’s patient transport system. While at DaVita Healthcare Partners, he created a telemedicine platform that doubled the reach rate for post-hospitalization pharmacist-to-patient medication reconciliations and reduced the number of medication related re-hospitalizations. Here at Acuity, he launched the company’s in-house optical lab and is responsible for the success of the Five Star measures.

 

Mike Runquist – Chief Compliance Officer

Mike is responsible for the effective operation of Acuity’s Compliance Program. He serves as the lead compliance executive across the organization and is chair of the organization’s Compliance Committee. He ensures that the senior leadership team, the Ethics and Compliance Committee and Partners are timely informed of all significant compliance developments. Mike has substantial experience in health care compliance, including auditing, training, investigations, compliance program development and implementation. Prior to joining the company, Mike served in compliance leadership roles in large, multi-state physician practices, an academic medical system, a managed care health plan and also served 6 years in the US Navy. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the University of Maryland.

In his spare time, Mike enjoys hiking, mountain biking and other outdoor activities with his wife Reiko and two children.
