Patients are recommended to use an Amsler grid to follow their macular degeneration. This grid is held at reading distance. Glasses are worn, if prescribed for reading, and one eye is checked at a time. Patients are asked to determine if any lines in the grid appear crooked, wavy, or missing. The chart can be marked and changes can be noted. If a patient notes any changes in their Amsler grid testing, an immediate retinal evaluation is warranted.
