The following national research trials are currently enrolling at the Retina Institute of California.

1. A Phase 2, Double-Masked, Randomized, Active Controlled Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of  in Reducing Central Retinal Thickness in Subjects with Diabetic Macular Edema

Enrollment Criteria for Diabetic Macular Edema Study:

  •  18-85 years old
  •  Diagnosis of Diabetes I or II
  • retinal thickening due to diffuse DME involving central macula
  • CST ≥ 375
  • BCVA:  20/40-20/320
  • Cannot have macular edema due to a cause other than DME
  • no vitreous hemorrhage, retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, etc.
  • no history of PPV
  • no YAG, PRP or focal laser within 3 months in STUDY EYE
  • no treatment within last 3 months in STUDY EYE
  • no anti-VEGF within 8 weeks in STUDY EYE
  • no high risk PDR
  • no restrictions in fellow eye (all of the above applies to study eye only)

2. A Phase 2, Randomized, Double-Masked, Placebo Controlled, Parallel Group, Multi-Center Study to Compare the Efficacy and Safety of a xxxxx receptor antagonist with that of Ranibizumab in Adult Subjects with Diabetic Macular Edema.

Enrollment Criteria for Diabetic Macular Edema Study:

  • Diagnosis of Diabetes and DME
  • CST ≥ 250 um with DME affecting fovea (STUDY EYE)
  • BCVA:  20/32-20/320 (STUDY EYE)
  • BCVA:  20/400 or better (Non-Study EYE)
  • No treatment in the last 3 months (BOTH EYES)
  • No PRP or macular photocoagulation in the last 3 months (BOTH EYES)
  • No high risk PDR (BOTH EYES) Inactive fibrosed neovascularization post PRP and non-high risk PDR with no vitreous hemorrhage is permitted
  • No cataract surgery in the last 60 days (BOTH EYES)
