Dr. Strand is the latest Vitreoretinal Surgeon to be joining the Retina Institute. A Midwestern native, Dr. Strand received his Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition Science from the University of Minnesota. During his time as a student he was also a member of the University of Minnesota Wrestling team (during his freshman and sophomore years), was recognized as an “Academic All-American,”and received team awards for academic excellence. Following this, Dr. Strand pursued a short-lived career in the food industry working in research and product development, coached wrestling and taught high-school for a short time in Soledad, CA. He returned to the University of Minnesota to complete a Master’s in Nutrition Science and minored in Biostatistics, focusing his research on the nutritional habits among NCAA wrestlers. He went onto obtain his Medical Doctorate from Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dr. Strand completed his Residency at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, served as Chief Resident and is now joining the Retina Institute as a Surgical Fellow. His research experiences include ocular traumatology, novel medical equipment use and new surgical techniques. His patient oriented philosophy is to “Always do right by your patients.”
He is married to rheumatologist Dr. Kimberly Fisher who is beginning her career in Pasadena as well. In his spare time, he is an avid fan of amateur wrestling and enjoys hiking, running, travelling, disc golf, and gardening.
