Dr. Spiegel is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in medical and surgical care of the retina and vitreous. Dr. Spiegel earned her undergraduate and medical degrees in her home state at the University of Kansas. She was elected into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in her junior year, among other honors, and graduated at the top of her class.
As she also has a background in journalism, Dr. Spiegel was awarded a Clendening Fellowship to design and complete research in Quito, Ecuador, on the media’s role in educating the public about cancer screening and prevention. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Kansas, where she received commendation for her performance on the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program exam and served as co-chief resident.
Dr. Spiegel served in leadership positions on the University Resident Council. Her fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and medicine took her to Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, where she participated in training residents in ophthalmology.
Dr. Spiegel has presented her research at esteemed conferences such as the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and has peer-reviewed publications. She is happy to provide medical care in Spanish or English. Dr. Spiegel is proud to adopt California as her new home state where she will have ample opportunity to enjoy biking, reading and traveling with her husband.
