Dr. Phung is a board-certified ophthalmologist and optometrist. His area of specialty includes medical management of disorders of the retina and vitreous, such as macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusions, diabetic retinopathy and retinal tears.
After receiving his doctor of optometry degree at University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Phung practiced for a few years in the Bay Area before deciding to attend medical school at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California. He completed his ophthalmology residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Queens, New York and his medical retina fellowship at Koch Eye Associates in Rhode Island.
Excited to return to California, Dr. Phung is looking forward to serving the people of Central Valley and helping his patients achieve their visual goals. He is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese and conversational in Spanish.
In his spare time, Dr. Phung enjoys practicing Western and Eastern calligraphy, hiking and traveling. Twice, he has successfully scaled Half Dome in Yosemite and hopes to hike other notable trails soon.
