Ragui Sedeek, MD

Dr. Sedeek earned his French baccalaureate from a renowned Catholic high school, College De La Salle in Cairo, Egypt. He was awarded L’Alliance Francaise, Diplome de Langue Francaise from the language administration of the French consulate in 1994 and received the national valedictorian award in biological sciences from the Egyptian department of education in 1995. He then majored in biological sciences at University of California, Irvine (UCI) where he was on the dean’s honor list for six academic quarters. At UCI, he was nominated for Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and School of Biological Sciences Scholastic Honor Society. He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in biological sciences.

Dr. Sedeek then attended the conservative Christian seminary run by Living Stream Ministry for three months before he went to medical school at Yale School of Medicine. He graduated from Yale with cum laude Doctor of Medicine in 2004. He did a preliminary internship year in internal medicine at University of California, Los Angeles affiliated hospitals: St. Mary Medical Center and Harbor County Hospital. He then completed a three-year of surgical residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in New York, New York. He then finished two-year medical and surgical vitreoretinal fellowship training at University of California, Davis Eye Center in Sacramento, California.

During his training, he published many articles in peer-reviewed journals and gave multiple lectures at several renowned institutions and national meetings. He has special research interests in the advancement of the understanding of the molecular signaling pathways underlying many of the diseases of the retina including diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.

Dr. Sedeek is married and has two daughters. He enjoys taking part of the local Christian community services. His hobbies include playing the guitar, scuba diving, windsurfing and snowboarding among others. He is fluent in English, French and Arabic.
